Several years ago, my old Zenith TV gave out, and I purchased a fancy flat-screen TV to replace it. I never could make the damn thing work, however, and finally gave up. I hardly ever watch TV any more. With the Internet so available, who needs TV anyway? TV-viewing has existential-distraction value (also known as "excess consciousness"). That's about all.

The TV series Law and Order bothered me because all of the criminals were pompous, hypocritcal Whites. The TV series The New Detectives bothered me because all of the victims were innocent college co-eds and housewives. Even without documentary proof, I knew these presumptions were false; but I needed some level of proof for my doubts.

So I went on-line to find it. From the plethora of relevant web-sites, I gleaned two articles on crime in America to tell the unvarnished truth. The first, a 66-page post published by Wikipedia and titled "Incarceration in the United States", reported the following: "In 2021, people of color constituted over two-thirds (69%) of the prison population. . . . Black Americans are imprisoned at 5 times the rate of White people."

The Wikipedia article also mentions "the First-Step Act, adopted in 2018 in an effort to shrink the incarcerated population." The exasperating truth is that the govenment has to shrink the prisoner population, unless it wants to risk lawsuits from prisoners who complain about overcrowding in the cells.

But I don't believe the best efforts by authorities will objectively reduce the prisoner population, not with sports-equipment, nor with after-school programs—as if you can reduce crime by taking their minds off committing crimes or killing people. Reductions will only result from changes within the collective mindset of the affected population groups.

The second article, gleaned from the Department of Justice web-site, shows that women of all ages constitute about 22% of murder victims. Hopefully that will relieve college co-eds and their parents from a lot of needless worrying that hordes of undocumented rapists and other ne'er-do-wells are waiting to commit rape or murder. The other 78% of the victims have to be those other people—the males!

So there you have it! Both the Law and Order and The New Detectives TV shows broadcast a lot of needlessly tendentious, unsupported fear-mongering. I just thought the average American needed an informed opinion on this matter. Rather than waiting to hear the latest fictionalized stories of crime, Americans should turn to the Internet for an informed opinion of the World around them.
