What would happen if a chain of Black student-clubs sprang up in colleges across the country, that revived old-time civil-rights concepts like autonomy and self-determination, in the context of creating a new nation? Club-members would carry with them the writings of Marcus Garvey, the way Christians carry Bibles and Communists carry Karl Marx and Bertrand Russell.
From Garvey's Philosophy and Opinions:
page 6: Nationhood is the only means by which modern civilization can protect itself.
page 5: Those who are not sufficiently able or prepared will be at the mercy of the organized class for the next 100 years.
page 106: What progress have we made when everything we do is done through the good-will and grace of the liberal White man?
page 126: I asked, "Where is the Black man's government? . . . Where is his President, his country, his ambassador?" I could not find them, and then I declared, "I will help to make them."
Eventually, other Blacks would feel threatened by the challenge that free-thinkers present to anyone who keeps his thoughts tied to the status quo of accepted-truths, namely that the accepted-truths are actually false, and that the real truths exist in a totally different perception of reality.
Most American Blacks have lived for so long with a second-class mind-set, they cannot stomach the idea of having to live apart from the Whites. That is the unvarnished truth about "Woke"--not staying woke because the Whites might try to re-enslave them or exterminate them, but because the Blacks have depended on the Whites for so long, they cannot tolerate the Whites distancing themselves, now.
The Blacks have abdicated responsibility for themselves to the Whites, just as they did during Slavery-days. Every time Black leaders blame the Whites for their problems, they accentuate that feeling of subordination to the Whites: "Do a better job of taking care of us!"
If the Whites hesitate or draw back from assuming so much responsibility for them, they will turn on the Whites in a fury: "How can you be so cruel to People of Color!!" The level of Black dependence on the Whites has given the Black-White relationship a toxicity it has not had before. The only orientation the Blacks receive from their leaders is "Stick with the Whites." The loss of autonomy leads to a paranoia about the Whites' intentions toward them.
I would like to warn the Blacks that, instead of staying woke, they are staying broke! They are allowing the Whites to run their lives, instead of building up assets independent of the Whites. They are living off their slave legacy in a way that holds back their forward thinking.
What if the Blacks occupied their own Holy Land, the way the Black Moses Marcus Garvey wanted? Most of their present leadership would want to stick with the Whites, where they have their connections and prestige. Therefore, the Black population would have to discard their present leaders and develop a new leadership class that gears them toward an independent life and recovered self-respect and confidence.
